Sailfish Defeat Bucs in Game One

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- The Sailfish of Palm Beach Atlantic took the first of three games at home against the Bucs of Barry University. The 'Fish got off to a hot start and never looked back, winning 9-3.

The main story in this game was the defense for the 'Fish. The Bucs came into this game in the top three in the Sunshine State Conference in hits, but PBA held them to just five total in this game. The Sailfish defense was able to wiggle their way out of some jams early in this game as well, stranding 15 Barry runners on the basepaths.

PBA got off to a hot start in the bottom of the first. Pedro Figueroa started off a two out rally with a walk and was moved into scoring position after a Nate Housen single. Figueroa would come in to score on Mikey Casaleggio's single up the middle. Dre Llopiz kept the rally going with an RBI single that dropped into shallow right field, and Givoany Lorenzo would cap off this early surge with a two run single out to center field.

It was an unconventional offensive outing for PBA in this game. They were unable to grab any extra base hits, but they made the most out of their 12 singles with some aggressive baserunning. The middle section of the lineup consisting of Nate Housen, Mikey Casaleggio, and Dre Llopiz did most of the heavy lifting, going 7-12 combined on the day with five total runs.

Justin Lovell would pick up the win with a solid three innings and Chris Seymour would fan six batters in his extended relief effort to keep the Bucs at bay. Ruiari Murphy and Devin Blair would come in to pitch in the late innings to put Barry away and seal the game one win for PBA.

The Sailfish and Bucs will face off in a doubleheader affair tomorrow Apr. 7.
