WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- The Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team completed their final two of a three game conference set against Embry-Riddle earlier today. The 'Fish split the series in dramatic fashion to get the 2-1 series victory over the Eagles.
The walk-off home run from
Davis Blair the previous night had the Eagles looking for revenge in game two.
Justin Lovell, the starter today for the 'Fish would shut them down in the first inning with two strikeouts and a ground out. The Sailfish would get things started in the first inning with the first run of the game coming off of an Eagles wild pitch. ERAU would work out a walk with the bases loaded in the top of the second to tie the game up.
The game stayed stagnant through the next three innings, until the Eagles managed to notch an RBI single in the sixth inning to take the lead. The 'Fish would go scoreless for the rest of the game and allowed two Eagles runs in the ninth that stifled their comeback attempt. Embry-Riddle would take the second game 4-1.
The rubber match between these two teams did not disappoint. Embry-Riddle would open things up with a two run triple that shot down the left field line in the second inning. The game went back and forth in the middle innings with the Sailfish managing three runs across the third, fourth, and fifth innings. Going in to the final stretches of the game, the Eagles held on to a 4-3 lead.
Neither team would make any push until the ninth inning. Things looked bleak for the Sailfish as they gave up a run with a walk and back to back fielding errors. A ground ball deep towards the left side infield was enough to bring another Eagles runners in to score, giving them a 6-3 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth.
The Sailfish would rally in clutch time with two outs.
Ben Green doubled down the left field line to put himself in scoring position.
Matty Warren singled up the middle and a costly error from the ERAU outfield brought Green into score, put
Elias Machado on first, and moved Warren into scoring position.
Matthew Faranda was hit by a pitch to load the bases for
Nate Housen, PBA's most clutch player this season.
Down 0-2 in the count, Housen would rocket a ball out to left center field for a walk-off grand slam to win the game for the Sailfish. PBA took the game in dramatic fashion and secured their second SSC series win.
PBA will take on #6 ranked Rollins College on the road for an SSC series matchup on April 21.
