WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- The Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team earned a series opening win over Embry-Riddle in dramatic fashion. The 'Fish walked off in extras to take game one of the series against the Eagles 9-7.
The 'Fish got things started early in this game with a solo home run from
Nate Housen in the second inning. Housen would be the MVP of this game, going five for five on the day and was one triple shy of hitting for the cycle.
Elias Machado drove in a run later in the second inning to go up 2-0 on the Eagles early. ERAU would match them in the third inning, but the 'Fish would tack on two more runs to keep the lead.
Things took a turn in the middle innings in favor of the Eagles. ERAU would get an RBI single in the fifth to cut the score to cut the Sailfish lead to just one run. The Eagles would then swing the tide of this game by rattling off four runs in the sixth inning to take the lead 7-4. PBA would battle back in the eighth inning.
Ben Green and
Matthew Faranda would reach base on a walk and a single to right field.
Nate Housen would bring Green in to score with a center field single. PBA would load the bases and would produce a walk followed up by a run off of an Eagles wild pitch to tie the game up. A winner couldn't be decided in regulation, so the game would stretch into innings.
After holding the Eagles off in the top of the 10th, the Sailfish would get the chance to put this game to rest.
Nate Housen got things started with a lead off double over the head of the center fielder to stand as the winning run.
Davis Blair, in his first batting appearance in this game, would rocket a shot over the fence in left center field to win the game for the Sailfish.
PBA will take on Embry-Riddle tomorrow, Apr. 15, in a doubleheader matchup.
