Sailfish Walk Off, Break Losing Streak Versus Assumption

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Palm Beach Atlantic baseball can breathe a sigh of relief as they were able to break their nine game losing streak against Assumption earlier this afternoon. The 'Fish were able to take this rematch game over the Greyhounds in walk-off fashion, winning 6-5.

The 'Fish were looking for revenge in this game against the Greyhounds after dropping the first meeting between these two teams three days prior. Liam Martin got the start for PBA in this game and would only give up one hit in his third appearance on the mound. The Greyhounds would be the first team to get on the board in this one, scoring four total runs in the third and fourth inning.

PBA would show some fight and work their way into tying the game up. In the bottom of the fourth, the Sailfish would load the bases and earn a free walked-in run. A sacrifice fly ball from Dre Llopiz would be just enough to cut the deficit down to two. Davis Blair would earn a walk to begin the fifth inning, followed up by a double to left field by Michael Schettino. Dean Dragos would tap a single up the middle to bring Blair and Schettino in to score.

In the sixth inning, Assumption would come up bring with an RBI double to retake the lead, but PBA would battle back once more. The Sailfish would once again load the bases and be walked in for the tying run in the bottom of the ninth.

PBA came up short in regulation and just like their previous matchup with the Greyhounds, the game would stretch into extra innings. In the bottom of the 11th, PBA would get the break they needed. Matty Warren, in a late game substitution effort, would lead off crunch time with a single to right center. Warren would then move into scoring position on a costly balk by the Greyhounds and a well placed ground ball from Ben Green

A wild pitch from the Assumption relief pitcher would send Matty Warren home. There was a tough play at the plate, but the Greyhounds dropped the ball and allowed Warren to score, winning the game for the Sailfish and breaking their nine game skid.

PBA will play the first of four games against American International starting on Mar. 10.
