Sailfish Drop Doubleheader at Nova Southeastern

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Palm Beach Atlantic baseball dropped both games in their first road SSC doubleheader of the season. Both games were tightly contested, but the Sharks of Nova Southeastern would pull away late both times, taking the first game 12-5 and the second 1-0.

In the first game, the Sharks would jump out to an early 2-0 lead in the second inning. The Sailfish would match their energy in the early goings and score two runs of their own in the third. Sal Grinstead would add to his impressive freshman campaign with a single to lead off the inning. Davis Blair would follow up with a single to right field and a timely sacrifice bunt from Jeremy Texel would bring Grinstead in to score. A costly throwing error by the Sharks would bring Blair across home plate to tie the game up.

Late in the game, the Sailfish would take their first lead of the series. In the seventh, Davis Blair added to his great day at the plate with an RBI single up the middle and NSU would walk a run in with the bases loaded to make the score 4-3 in favor of PBA. The Sharks would tie the game up in the bottom of the seventh, but a sacrifice fly ball out to left field from Mikey Casaleggio would help the Sailfish retake the lead.

PBA looked to have all the momentum and were looking to steal this conference road game, but the Sharks had other plans. NSU would rattle off eight unanswered runs in the bottom of the eight to seal the win in convincing fashion.

The second game came all way down to to the wire. There were 11 total hits between these two teams and 12 runners combined left on base. Dan Beebe continued to shine as the lead pitcher in the bullpen for the Sailfish. He would go for six innings in this game and gave up only three hits. Beebe would add to his impressive strikeout numbers this season with five on the day.

The game dragged on into the late innings with neither team giving up an inch. The contest would be locked at 0-0 deep into the ninth inning. The Sharks would load the bases in the bottom of the ninth and a timely hit out to right field would give NSU the walk-off win.

PBA will return home tomorrow morning on Mar. 5 for their rematch against Assumption.
