FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- The Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team just finished up game one of a three game conference series against Sunshine State Conference foe Nova Southeastern University. The Sharks jumped on the Sailfish early and never looked back, taking game one of the series 10-2.
The offense for the Sailfish has been point of emphasis during their current losing skid. They struggled to get the ball in play in this game, largely in part by some stellar defense and pitching by Nova Southeastern. The 'Fish got three total hits and were sat down on strikes 13 times in this game. The Sharks jumped out to a big early lead, exploding for five straight runs in the third inning.
Nova would get a run each in the fourth and fifth innings, and score three runs late in the game for some extra insurance. The Sailfish would scratch two runs in the top of the ninth inning to potentially give them some momentum heading into the weekend doubleheader.
Mikey Casaleggio would walk to get the inning started, followed by back-to-back singles by
Nate Housen and
Dre Llopiz to load the bases.
Sal Grinstead and
Jeremy Texel would be recipients of RBIs as Casaleggio and Housen would come around to score.
A bright spot for the Sailfish has been
Nate Housen this season. He went 1-2 with a single today against Nova and is currently top two on this team in hits and batting average. His ability to put the ball in play has been a sign of life for the Sailfish during their current losing skid.
PBA will take on Nova once again in a doubleheader tomorrow Mar. 4.
