BOCA RATON, Fla. -- The Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team was able to pull out their first Sunshine State Conference series win this weekend over Lynn University. The Sailfish split today's doubleheader matchup to take the series two games to one.
The first game was a tough out for the Sailfish. The Knights jumped on them early with four hits and three runs to begin the game. PBA struggled to gain some ground, only managing to get four hits in total in this game. The Knights had everything working, earning 13 hits and put up a run or more in all but two innings overall. Lynn ran away with things winning the second game of the series 12-0.
Things would turn around for the 'Fish in the rubber match between these two teams. PBA was able to get on the board first in the second inning.
Dre Llopiz was able to earn a free base to lead things off and was able to move into scoring position thanks to a left field double from
Giovany Lorenzo. Llopiz would be able to make it home off of a single from
Davis Blair. Lorenzo would later be driven in by
Matty Warren to give the 'Fish a solid 2-0 start.
The tables had turned for both teams in this final game on the offensive side of things. It was PBA would had everything working, winning the battle of hits 11-3. The Knights also had two costly errors in this game that led the way for some Sailfish runs to cross. The Sailfish would take the third game and clinch the much-needed series win 8-1.
This game seems to be a turning point in this season for the Sailfish as they try to turn things around with 22 games left. The 'Fish will hit the road again to take on St. Thomas on Mar. 28 and then head to Lakeland for an SSC matcup with Florida Southern on Mar. 31.
