WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- The Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team continued their SSC conference matchup in a doubleheader outing against Eckerd College. The 'Fish managed to split the two games, but dropped the overall series two games to one.
Dan Beebe showed why he is considered the ace on the mound for the Sailfish this season. He would go for seven innings and completely shut out the Triton offense in game one, only allowing four hits while adding to his strikeout totals with five on the day. The 'Fish got out to a hot start with three runs early in the bottom of the first inning.
Nate Housen got things started with an RBI single through the left side of the field and
Pedro Figueroa would slap a hit up the middle that plated two runs later in the inning.
In the second inning,
Matthew Faranda would join in on the action with an RBI single of his own. In the third, Figueroa would add to his good day at the plate with another RBI single and would later come around to score himself off of a Triton wild pitch.
The Sailfish looked to get their revenge for their Friday night loss against the Tritons and held the momentum for the majority of this game.
Mikey Casaleggio would slam a three-run homer in the seventh to make the score 9-0 heading into the late innings. Eckerd would make things very interesting down the stretch however. The Tritons would rattle off five straight runs in the top of the eighth to put some pressure on PBA. The solid 'Fish defense prevented any further damage to help secure their first win in conference play this season.
The rubber match between these two teams is one that the Sailfish would most definitely like to forget. The Tritons routed the 'Fish and completely shut them out, going for 21 runs and out hit the Sailfish 15 to four. PBA also tallied four errors in this game, which could potentially be the result of some fatigue. The Sailfish have had a pretty busy last couple of weeks, having played eight games in nine days.
PBA will have their spring break to recharge before heading out on the road to face Lynn University on March 24.
