WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- The Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team made their return to Sunshine State Conference play earlier tonight against Eckerd College. The Tritons came into town ranked seventh in the SSC standings at 2-4 overall in the conference. Eckerd would take game one of this three-game series 14-4.
It was a rough start for the Sailfish in this game. The Tritons were able to steal four unearned runs in the second inning on two costly errors by the PBA infield. The PBA bullpen had a tough out as well, walking eight batters and hitting one. The Tritons were able to spray the ball all over the field, tallying 13 hits including a three run home run in the eighth inning. On the PBA side, the offense managed seven hits, left four stranded, and struck out five times.Â
A bright spot in the offense came in the fourth and fifth innings. The 'Fish got two home runs by
Mikey Casaleggio and
Elias Machado that gave PBA some signs of life early in this game. However, the solid overall defense from the Tritons mitigated any further damage and stifled PBA from getting anything going for the remainder of the game.Â
The Sailfish will look to get in the win column and turn this seven-game conference losing skid around tomorrow in a doubleheader against the Tritons starting at 12 pm.Â
