WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic men's basketball team hosted Barry in its last home game of the regular season on Saturday.
The shorthanded Sailfish, still missing two key starters, faced a hot Barry team that needed a win to stay alive in the chase for a spot in the SSC tournament. The Sailfish started the game well, but efficient shooting by the Bucs was too much for PBA to overcome. The Bucs won, 83-57.
Jalen Cooper led PBA with 25 points, five rebounds, and four steals.
Will Lee scored 10 points, including his 1,000th career point, with six assists.
Bryce Laskey scored nine points off the bench with three rebounds.
Ryan Claflin totaled seven points with three rebounds and two blocks.
After a slow start, the Bucs got their offense going midway through the first half. Barry shot 71 percent in the first half, including 56 percent from the 3-point range. Cooper scored 13 in the first half, followed by Lee with eight points; however, the Sailfish shot 34 percent from the field in the period. Barry led 43-30 at the break.
The Sailfish cut the Barry lead to nine in the second half, but failed to string together enough stops to really make a run. A 9-0 run by the visitors midway through the period was the nail in the coffin for PBA. The Bucs cruised to an 83-57 win.
The Bucs shot 63 percent in the game compared to 36 percent for the Sailfish. PBA lost the rebounding battle, 33-25. The Sailfish defense did force Barry into 14 turnovers, leading to 10 points off turnovers.
The Sailfish conclude the regular season next Saturday at Rollins. The game in Winter Park, Fla. tips off at 4:00 p.m.
