Volleyball Concedes to FSC

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball team concluded its weekend with a Sunshine State Conference match against Florida Southern on Saturday afternoon.

PBA looked to avenge its loss to the Mocs from earlier this season. The Sailfish took the opening set over the Mocs but had no answer for FSC's mid-game adjustments. FSC bested the Sailfish in Rubin Arena, 3-1.

Taylor Nelson and Abbie Zylstra led the PBA attack with 11 kills each. Nelson hit .214 with six digs and a block. Zylstra added three digs and one block to her stat line. Mary Morgan Formby recorded nine kills, hitting a team-best .217 with two blocks. Middles Kaileigh Ammons and Harper Stokes totaled seven kills each. Ammons notched for blocks while H. Stokes recorded four. Jayden Otto led the squad with 29 assists to go with nine digs. Payton Ahrenstorff tallied 11 digs as libero. Steph Boyer scooped up nine digs of her own.

The Sailfish were firing on all cylinders to start the match. PBA hit a match-best .325 in the set. A 5-0 run with kills from Ammons and Formby helped build an 18-12 lead for the Sailfish. The Mocs fought back, cutting the deficit to one. The trio of Zylstra, Formby, and Ammons came up big for the 'Fish down the stretch, clinching the set, 25-22.

The second set started tight, but PBA got stuck in rotation, conceding a 6-0 run that allowed FSC to build an 18-8 lead. The Mocs closed out the set 25-15. A 13-1 run by the visitors in the third set was too much for PBA to overcome. FSC took a 2-1 lead by winning the third frame 25-14.

After falling behind to start the fourth set, PBA answered with a pair of blocks from H. Stokes that helped cut the deficit down to three. Unfortunately for the Sailfish, the Mocs ended the set on a 7-0 run leading to a 25-15 win and a 3-1 win in the match.

PBA faces off against Eckerd on Friday night. The match in Rubin Arena starts at 7 p.m.
