ORLANDO, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball team concluded play at the GSC_SSC South Region Crossover on Saturday with a match against Union.
The Sailfish took down the Bulldogs in four sets to complete an undefeated weekend. PBA outhit Union .274 - .129 in the match. Efficiency was key for the Sailfish as four players hit over .400 for the 'Fish.
Kaileigh Ammons led PBA's attack with 11 kills, hitting .444 with three blocks.
Mary Morgan Formby totaled nine kills, hitting .412.
Anna Beth Stokes,
Taylor Nelson,
Harper Stokes, and
Abbie Zylstra tallied seven kills each. A. Stokes added three assists and two digs to her stat line while hitting .500. H. Stokes hit .357 with three blocks.
Jayden Otto led PBA with 38 assists and 12 digs.
Payton Ahrenstorff tallied a team-high 13 digs as libero.
The Sailfish had a sluggish start to the match, allowing Union to secure a 22-18 lead in the opening frame. Kills from A. Stokes and H. Stokes gained some momentum for the 'Fish, who ended the set on a 7-1 run. A pair of kills from Zylstra closed out a 25-23 win for PBA. Union earned another large lead in the second set and did not let it slip away, taking the set 25-19 to even the match.
PBA snapped out of its funk in the third set. The Sailfish dominated the Bulldogs, hitting a match-best .455 in the third. The PBA defense forced Union to hit in the negatives which allowed the 'Fish to come out on top, 25-12.
Union tried to bounce back in the fourth set, gaining an early advantage in the set thanks to several blocks from the front row. A kill from Formby got the 'Fish on track and started a 9-2 run which gave the 'Fish a 20-15 lead. The Sailfish held on to win the set, 25-19 to clinch the match.
The Sailfish return to SSC play next week when they travel to Embry-Riddle on Oct. 28. The match in Daytona Beach, Fla. takes place at 4 p.m.
