8/19/2022 4:20:00 PM

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball team was picked to finish fifth in the Sunshine State Conference in the 2022 SSC Preseason Coaches Poll released on Friday.

The Sailfish are coming off an 18-14 overall record with an 11-8 conference mark in 2021. PBA made its return to the NCAA tournament where they fell to the eventual national champions, Tampa who was picked first in this season's preseason poll with 10 first-place votes. The 'Fish are also receiving votes in the AVCA top-25.

Nova Southeastern was the only other team to receive a first-place vote. The Sharks tied with Embry-Riddle for second in the poll with 82 points each. Lynn was picked fourth with 68 points right in front of PBA who rounded out the top five with 60 points. PBA's ranked win over NSU last season was instrumental in the 'Fish making their run to the postseason.

Anna Gregerson and Mary Morgan Formby are PBA's two returning starters. The Sailfish reloaded the team with 10 newcomers. NCAA Division I transfers Jayden Otto, Kaileigh Ammons, Kayla Matthews, and Angeleyshka Curbelo are expected to make an impact on the team.

The Sailfish open their season a week from today in Clarion, Pa. when they compete in the Tony Banner Invitational. PBA plays a pair of matches on Friday against Fayetteville State and Shippensburg, followed by two contests on Saturday against Northwood and Clarion.
