WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team played host to Nova Southeastern tonight in a non-conference midweek game at J.M. "Jake" Rubin Park. The Sailfish battled back to take a lead midway through the game, but a ten-run sixth inning for the Sharks sank any Sailfish hopes as they fell 13-5.
Ryan Webster got the ball to start the game for the Sailfish tonight and he was rudely greeted by the Sharks as his first pitch of the game was jumped on and driven out of the park to left-center field. He would surrender one more run in the second inning, allowing a two-out single. After that, however, Webster settled in and held the Sharks' offense scoreless for the next three innings. During that time the Sailfish bats would also come to life as
Matty Warren led off the third inning with a single and was brought home on a
Jiovel Lantigua homerun out to right field. The homerun was Lantigua's third of the season and tied the game at 2-2.Â
The Sailfish weren't done scoring runs, and in the fourth inning they took the lead as
Mikey Casaleggio tripled to right field and was brought home on a
Blake Ebo groundout.
Matty Warren would later deliver a double with two outs that plated
Dylan Tosto and PBA led 4-2 after four innings of play.
The Sailfish got into trouble in the top half of the sixth inning when the Sharks started by going single, homer, single, which ended the day from Webster.
Daniel Foster was the first man out of the bullpen for the 'Fish, but he was unable to get out of the inning as he allowed five runs, four earned, in two-thirds of an inning of work.
David Chenoweth entered the game following Foster and went on to surrender a homerun to the second batter he faced before recording the final out of the inning, but the Sharks struck for ten runs and blew the game open by taking a 12-4 lead.Â
The Sailfish would add one run in the eighth as Ebo brought home
Nate Housen with a single, but they could never recover from the sixth inning. They finished with five runs on nine hits while the Sharks recorded 15 hits and claimed the 13-5 victory.
Davis Blair, Warren, and Ebo all had solid nights at the plate, recording multiple hits, but the 'Fish left ten men on base as a team. Webster was hit with the loss after finishing with a line of five innings pitched, surrendering five runs, four earned while striking out three batters.
The Sailfish will have a few days off before they begin a weekend series against Florida Southern. PBA will host the Mocs for a game Friday night before a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at noon.
