2022 Athletic Awards Banquet Recap

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic University Athletic Department announced its yearly award winners on Sunday night to celebrated the best and brightest from PBA athletics. The award show returned to being held in person for the first time in three years, and all awards were handed out to the student-athletes as the show served as a culmination to the past year of Sailfish athletics, highlighting both accomplishments on the field, in the classroom, and in the community. 

Below are the nominees and winners of each award.

Athlete of the Year: Awarded to the male and female student-athletes who are considered the top performers at the University.
Winners: Gunner Gebelein (Men's Lacrosse), Michael Pahr (Men's Soccer) and Jazz Schmidt (Indoor/Beach Volleyball)
Finalists: Jules Jasmin (Men's Basketball), William Hartford (Men's Golf), Shekinah Guthrie (Women's Basketball), Dune Costes (Women's Cross Country/Track), Jaycie Tate (Women's Soccer), and Katherine Budnovich (Softball)
Other Nominees: Jake Lonsdale (Men's Cross Country/Track) and Rodolfo Hasegawa (Men's Tennis).


Athletic Director's Award: Awarded to a male and female student-athlete who has exemplified the Christian values on and off the field of competition along with upholding the academic and athletic standards of the Palm Beach Atlantic University Athletics Department.
Winners: Christin Sustar (Women's Cross Country/Track) and Ben Justice (Men's Lacrosse)
Finalists: Abby DeVido (Beach Volleyball), Anna Gregerson (Volleyball), Christian Horner (Baseball), and Cade Tjomsland (Men's Golf)
Other Nominees: Giancarlo Triulzi (Men's Soccer)


Clark Boetel Award: Awarded to a male and female student-athlete who represents the University with outstanding attitude, leadership and servant-hood.
Winners: Birhanu van der Riet (Men's Cross Country/Track) and Michaela Boyd (Women's Soccer)
Finalists: Christian Horner (Baseball), Luis Quintero (Men's Soccer), Umberto Rosi (Men's Tennis), Chelsea Smith (Women's Lacrosse), Emma Gipson (Softball), and Marlena Kincaid (Volleyball)
Other Nominees: Ben Justice (Men's Lacrosse), Devyn Kettner (Beach Volleyball), and Faith Kulis (Women's Cross Country/Track)


Don Harp Award: Awarded to a male and female student-athlete who is a rising senior who has excelled in competition and demonstrated outstanding Christian leadership. 
Winners: Katie Caras (Women's Lacrosse) and Hunter Hopman (Men's Lacrosse)
Finalists: Lunden Evans (Beach Volleyball), Mackenzie McCormack (Women's Golf), Anna Gregerson (Volleyball), and Blake Williams (Men's Tennis)
Other Nominees: Hayley Haas (Softball)


Gary Carter Award: Awarded to a male and female student-athlete that has a love and respect for the game, plays with enthusiasm and heart and is a good role model on and off the field or court. Must have credible statistics.
Winners: Sean Houck (Baseball), Lyndzey Minter (Beach Volleyball), and Meredith Milam (Softball)
Finalists: Jakob Hester (Men's Basketball), Denny Murphy (Men's Cross Country/Track), Hunter Sheffield (Men's Lacrosse), Sydney Timmes (Women's Soccer), and Ally Smith (Volleyball)
Other Nominees: Andres Flores (Men's Soccer), Jorge Santamaria (Men's Tennis), and Emma Baron (Women's Cross Country/Track)


Newcomer of the Year: Awarded to a male and female student-athlete who performs at a high-level and makes a sizable impact for their team as a first-year player.
Winners: Rachel Neumann (Women's Soccer) and Fred Ferreira (Men's Soccer)
Finalists: Courtney Rausch (Women's Lacrosse), Daylin Hejtmanek (Softball), Alessia Passerini (Women's Tennis), Will Lee (Men's Basketball), Jake Lonsdale (Men's Cross Country/Track), and Andrew Riley (Men's Golf)
Other Nominees: Kash Ayuso (Women's Basketball), Jahnae Midget (Women's Basketball), Alyse Cundiff (Volleyball), Jiovel Lantigua (Baseball), and Ben Lightsey (Men's Lacrosse)


President's Award: Awarded to a male and female student-athlete with outstanding academic achievements while contributing to their team's athletic success. 
Winners: William Hartford (Men's Golf) and Allison Seng (Women's Cross Country/Track)
Finalists: Tyler Ketcham (Men's Cross Country/Track), Aaron Miechiels (Men's Lacrosse), Roberto Binaghi (Men's Tennis), Maria Benitez-Zayas (Women's Basketball), Abigail Mason (Beach Volleyball), and Sydney Cromwell (Women's Soccer)
Other Nominees: Sean Houck (Baseball) and Cienna Oniwa (Volleyball)


Strength and Conditioning Award: Given to a male and female student-athlete who increases or improves their physical fitness through a high commitment level and hard work.
Winners: Abby DeVido (Beach Volleyball) and Andres Flores (Men's Soccer)


Workship Award: Given to a male and female student-athlete who continually demonstrates leadership service through the Workship program.
Winners: Jules Jasmin (Men's Basketball) and Kaelin DeNeui (Women's Lacrosse)


Fleming Impact Award: Presented to individuals who continue to make a tremendous impact for Sailfish student-athletes.
Winners: Don Piper (Dean/Professor of Sports Broadcasting)
