MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic's baseball team continued their SSC matchup with Barry earlier today in a doubleheader affair. The Sailfish took the first game 10-6 but dropped the second game 10-3, losing the series 2-1.
PBA got off to a slow start in the first game. They managed to get six hits through the first four innings, but solid defense by the Bucs prevented the 'Fish from getting anything going. Barry got off to a good early start, scoring two runs in the second inning and one in the third.
The Sailfish would find their rhythm in the later innings. In the fifth,
Matty Warren doubled to left center to bring
Mikey Casaleggio in to score and Warren was able to score off of a single from
Jiovel Lantigua. The 'Fish would continue to look good in the sixth, scoring two more runs.
PBA would turn it on in the eighth inning.
Jeff Manto drove in two runs with a single to left field and
Jake Roper's double down the left field line brought three runs in to score, giving the Sailfish a 9-4 lead. The Sailfish would add one more run in the ninth and held off the late Barry comeback to take the first game due to some solid pitching from
Dan Beebe and
Justin Lovell.
The second game was a rough one for the Sailfish. Solid pitching from the Bucs gave them a no-hit bid through four innings. Barry would make a big run in the fourth inning, scoring five runs. PBA would get some runs on the board in the fifth and sixth innings off of a Barry error and a two-RBI single from
Jeff Manto. Barry would score three more runs late in the seventh to close things out for the series.
The 'Fish will be back at home for a South Region matchup against Nova Southeastern on Apr. 5 and an SSC matchup against Florida Southern on Apr. 8-9.
