Sailfish Split Home Doubleheader Against Cedarville, Win Series 3-1

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team played the final games of a four-part home series against the Yellow Jackets of Cedarville University. The Sailfish split two tightly contested seven inning games, winning the first one 5-2 and losing the second 3-2. PBA has taken the overall series against Cedarville winning three games to one.

Drew Holweger would get the start for the first game against the Yellow Jackets. He would throw three innings and finish with five hits, 1 earned run, two walks, and two strikeouts. Much like the previous couple of games in this series, the Sailfish jumped out to an early lead. Davis Blair helped the Sailfish strike first in the early goings with an RBI single to left field. Cedarville would tie the game up in the third inning with a two-out RBI single. The back and forth affair continued later in the inning as the 'Fish would respond with an RBI sacrifice bunt from Jeff Manto.

Cedarville showed a lot of fight in this game, tying things up in the fourth inning. However, PBA made their move in the fifth by scoring three runs. Sebastian Salado smashed a double to right center that brought Sean Houck in to score. Salado later scored in the inning off of a wild pitch from Cedarville. The 'Fish capped off their run with an RBI single from Davis Blair, his second of the game.

Dan Beebe would come in to relive Holweger and would pick up the win in this game. He would pitch for two innings and was able to hold the Yellow Jackets in check, giving up zero hits and striking out two batters. Ruari Murphy would pick up where Beebe left off and get the save for the Sailfish.

Mike Entenza would get the call for the second of this afternoon doubleheader. He would pitch for 5 innings, give up two unearned runs, two walks and fan four Cedarville batters.

Hits and runs were few and far between in the second go-around for both of these teams. Neither side would score for the first three innings and the only hit in that stretch was a left field double from Jeff Manto. Cedarville would be the first team to get on the board in the fourth inning off of a Sailfish dropped third strike error, followed up by an RBI single. PBA would scrap their way into striking distance later in the game, but the Yellow Jackets were able to hold on for the win 3-2.

PBA will play again on Mar. 10 at home against Chestnut Hill and hit the road later in the week for another SSC weekend series against Embry-Riddle.
