Men's Lacrosse Falls To #1 Tampa 14-11

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla- The Palm Beach Atlantic men's lacrosse team suffered an SSC loss to the No. 1 Tampa Spartans 14-11 at the Rinker Athletic Campus. PBA (4-4) closed the game out on a 6-1 run but came up short. 

The first half for the 'Fish was headlined by Dylan Insolia who notched a first-half hat-trick. The Sailfish struck first with 12:23 in the first quarter. Joshua Turner connected with Insolia who ripped a shot top shelf to give PBA a 1-0 lead. Tampa scored an equalizer off a PBA penalty with 9:25. At 8:18 in the first quarter and the score at 1-1, Ben Justice buried his seventh goal of the year for a 2-1 PBA lead. Justice finished the game with two goals for a season total of eight. 

The Spartans went on a 5-0 run to build their lead to 6-2. At 9:05 in the second quarter, the Turner to Insolia connection struck again to end the Sailfish scoring drought. Turner finished the game with two assists. Tampa tacked on another for a 7-3 Spartan lead with 4:05 left in the first half. PBA capitalized off a Tampa penalty with 3:42 left, Caleb Southard assisted Insolia for his third and final goal of the game. Tampa closed the first half out on a 2-0 run to bring the score to 9-4 at halftime. 

Austin Evans caught a pass from Insolia and scored his 13th goal of the season with 13:20 in the third quarter. The Spartans answered back with a 4-0 run of their own. With the score at 13-5 with 2:38 in the third quarter, Hunter Hopman assisted Justice on his second goal of the game. Henry Sloyan scored his first goal of the game when he shot a rocket with 2:03 left in the third. Tampa closed out the quarter with a goal to build their lead to 14-7. 

In the fourth quarter, the 'Fish caught fire with Sloyan as the catalyst. Sloyan notched a fourth-quarter hat-trick to finish the game with four goals. With 14:37 in the fourth quarter, Sloyan scored his second of the game to cut the Sailfish deficit to 14-8. At 11:32 Southard assisted Sloyan for PBA's ninth goal of the game. With 8:50 left in the game, Hopman spun through Spartan defenders near the crease and finished his shot for his 13th goal of the season. Sloyan tacked on one more with 8:07 left in the fourth to bring the score to 14-11. Sloyan leads the Sailfish in goals with 17 this season. 

 PBA's defense shutout the Spartans in the fourth quarter. Penalties hindered the Sailfish comeback as 14-11 was the final score. 

PBA defender Gunner Gebelein finished the game with two caused turnovers and two ground balls. In the third quarter, Gebelein notched his 200th career ground ball. Additionally, Gebelein has caused 102 turnovers. The 'Fish went 13-14 on faceoffs and committed four more penalties than the Spartans. PBA goalkeeper Ben Lightsey started in net for the 'Fish and recorded 14 saves.
