Sailfish Drop Two Games at #1 Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team continued their SSC series against #1 ranked Tampa earlier today in a doubleheader. The Sailfish struggled in both games, losing 14-8 and 14-0.

The Spartans of Tampa jumped out to a large early lead in the first game. Tampa scored two quick runs in the bottom of the first inning and exploded for six runs in the third. The 'Fish would get two runs of their own in the fourth to chip away at the Spartan lead. Sean Houck's sacrifice fly ball allowed Davis Blair to reach home plate and Jeff Manto earned an RBI single later in the inning.

Tampa would extend their lead to 10-2, but the Sailfish would make a spirited comeback effort starting in the seventh inning. Nate Housen was able to drive Houck in to score, Mikey Casaleggio doubled to right center to bring in Manto, and Casaleggio was able to score off of a wild pitch.

Tampa swung the momentum back in their favor by scoring four runs in the bottom half of the seventh. PBA would make one more final push, but would come up short, losing the game 14-8.

The second game was one the Sailfish would like to have back. They totaled just five hits in the game and seemed to be overwhelmed by the Tampa offense. It seemed like PBA could not get anything going and would drop the game 14-0.

PBA will go on the road again to take on St. Thomas on Mar. 29 and will head down to Miami to face SSC opponent Barry on Apr. 1.
