Slow Start Costs Sailfish, Lose to #14 Rollins 5-4

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic's baseball team took on #14 ranked Rollins College earlier this evening in the first of a three-game Sunshine State Conference series. The Sailfish tried to make a comeback late, but the stellar pitching from the Tars sealed their 5-4 win over the Sailfish.

It was a rough start for both teams early in the game. A total of six errors as well as seven hits combined between Rollins and PBA led to most of the runs in the early goings go down as unearned in the stat book. The Tars were able to get three runs in the third inning from two errors from PBA, but the Sailfish would minimize the damage in the bottom half of the inning with two runs of their own.

Matty Warren and Sean Houck were both able to reach base on throwing errors from Rollins. Jiovel Lantigua singled to right field to bring Warren into score and Jeff Manto carried over his momentum from Wednesday night with an RBI single that brought home Houck.

PBA would go into the fourth inning down 3-2, but a monster solo home run from Sean Houck tied the game up and provided a spark for the Sailfish offense. However, the Tars would stifle any hopes of a Sailfish lead in the later innings. A throwing error by the 'Fish set up a Rollins RBI single in the seventh inning, and some unawareness by the Sailfish defense allowed a runner to steal home plate in the eighth to make the score 5-2.

An RBI from Matthew Faranda would give PBA some life late in the game, but Rollins relief pitcher Austin Long would set the 'Fish down on strikes for the final out of the game.

PBA takes on #14 Rollins tomorrow in a doubleheader at J.M. "Jake" Rubin Park.
