Late Surge Pushes Fish Past #12 Rollins

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team took on #12 Rollins College in a mid-week south region matchup earlier this evening. The Sailfish battled hard and came away with the win 4-3.

Rollins got on the board first to open things up, with the first two batters of the game earning a single and an RBI double. The Tars came into this game with one of the best bullpen's in the Sunshine State Conference and continued that high level of success early into the game. Through the first three innings, The Sailfish had trouble getting hits and capitalizing on scoring opportunities.  PBA would load the bases and score off of a walk in the third inning, but couldn't do anymore damage due to the solid pitching from Rollins. The Tars added to their lead in the fourth inning off of a ground-rule double and an RBI single later in the inning. They would get another run in the sixth inning to make the score 3-1.

The game would quickly turn in the favor of the 'Fish in the seventh inning. Christian Horner, relieving for the starter Drew Holweger, managed a quick three-out inning to set up PBA's big run. Matty Warren and Sebastian Salado were able to reach base on a walk and a single up the middle. Mikey Casaleggio's sacrifice fly was deep enough to get Warren in to score. With two outs in the inning, Jeff Manto emerged as the hero for the Sailfish, smashing a two-run home run to give PBA the lead.

The Sailfish bullpen had a stellar game with Drew Holweger, Christian Horner and Troy Klemm providing solid outings across the board. The key to PBA's victory tonight however came from Justin Lovell, who got his second save of the season. Lovell would pitch two innings, give up zero hits, zero runs and came up with three big strike outs to seal the win for the Sailfish.

PBA will play #12 Rollins again in a weekend SSC series starting on Friday, Mar. 18.
