Comeback Effort Comes Up Short for Sailfish, Lose to Embry-Riddle 6-5

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic's baseball team squared off against the Eagles of Embry-Riddle earlier this evening for game one of a Sunshine State Conference Series. The Sailfish would come up short after a spirited late comeback, losing 6-5.

Ethan Petric would get the start today for the 'Fish. He would pitch a total of three and two-thirds and give up 10 hits, three earned runs, one walk and strike out three batters. Errors were the story of the game in the early goings for the Sailfish. A throwing error in the first inning set up an RBI single for the Eagles for the first run of the game. PBA would take the lead in the third inning off of an error and two RBI hits from Matty Warren and Sebastian Salado. However, a dropped foul ball and a costly throwing error from third base quickly brought the score to even.

The Sailfish offense was an issue in tonight's game. PBA tallied 10 hits on the night, but were unable to capitalize on them when they needed to as they left six runners on base.  PBA was able to strand nine Eagles runners on the bases but gave up three early runs due those early errors. Embry-Riddle would score their only true earned runs of the game in the fourth inning off of two RBI singles, making the score 6-3.

Chris Seymour would come in for Petric and would show why he's been the best reliver as of late for Kent Bottenfield's squad. He pitched four and one-third innings and would provide a spark for the Sailfish, giving up zero hits and striking out five hitters. Seymour did a great job cutting off the momentum of the Eagles, who went scoreless the rest of the game.

PBA would make a final push in the last couple of innings. Sean Houck continued his consistent offense for PBA with an RBI single in the eighth inning and a wild pitch in the ninth allowed Davis Blair to cross home plate to cut the lead to one. The Sailfish had the tying run in Jake Roper on third base, but were unable to capitalize.

The 'Fish will look to Sunday's doubleheader as an opportunity to take the overall series against the Eagles to move up in the SSC standings.
