Sailfish Drop Tough Game Against Washburn

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team played their final game of a four-game home stand earlier this afternoon against the Ichabods of Washburn University. The Sailfish dropped a tight one that extended into extra innings 5-3.

The Sailfish jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. Blake Ebo led off with a triple and eventually scored off of a throwing error by the Ichabods. Sebastian Salado slammed a solo home run later in the inning to give the Sailfish a 2-0 lead. Ethan Petric would get the start for this matchup against Washburn. He would finish the day with four innings pitched, zero runs earned, three walks and two strikeouts.

The Sailfish would add to their lead in the sixth inning after a solo home run from Sean Houck, making the score 3-0. However the Ichabods would turn the tide in the seventh inning, cutting the Sailfish lead to one. Washburn would tie the game in the eighth inning after a Sailfish throwing error brought a runner home.

The game would stretch into the 10th inning. The Ichabods would eventually pull away after a sacrifice fly ball and a costly throwing error by the Sailfish made the score 5-3. PBA would try to make one last effort in the bottom of the 10th, but solid Washburn pitching dashed any hopes of a repeat of the Sailfish's Feb. 4 game against Catawba.

PBA will play a three-game home stretch starting on Feb. 11 when they host Missouri Southern State at J.M. "Jake" Rubin park. The Sailfish will look to bounce back from their 2-2 home stretch.
