WEST PALM BEACH, Fla- The Palm Beach Atlantic men's tennis team started the
Carlos Cardona era with a 4-3 SSC victory over Rollins on Saturday. This win marks the first for the 'Fish under Cardona, additionally, it's only the second time the Sailfish have defeated the Tars since 2013.
In doubles competition
Umberto Rosi and
Jorge Santamaria lost 6-1 to Alexander Bucurescu and Andrea Brignacca. The tandem of
Roberto Binaghi and
Luis Eduardo Platas fell to RC's Efe Comu and Mikkel Baumann 6-3. A bright spot for the 'Fish in doubles competition came from the pair of
Rodolfo Hasegawa and
Blake Williams who beat Phillip McMurray and Charlie Putrino 6-0.
After the doubles portion of the match, the Sailfish needed to win four singles matches to overcome Rollins 1-0 lead.
In the singles competition, PBA's
Blake Williams defeated David Polo 6-1, 6-0.
Roberto Binaghi followed with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Brignacca.
Rodolfo Hasegawa won over Phillip McMurray 6-1, 6-4. Umberto Rossi lost to Denis Golubev 6-1, 6-3. With two singles matches left, It was PBA's
Luis Eduardo Platas who clinched the victory over Mikkel Baumann. After splitting the first two sets 6-3, 2-6, Platas took the third with a 6-1 victory.
Jorge Santamaria finished the game with a tight match against Efe Comu. Santamaria lost 7-5, and then a 7-6 tiebreaker.
For the Sailfish they move to 1-0 on the year and in Sunshine State Conference play. Up next, PBA takes on St. Thomas on Feb. 9.
