WEST PALM BEACH, Fla- The Palm Beach Atlantic men's tennis team defeated the Southeastern Fire 6-1 Thursday at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center. This is the first 2-0 start for the Sailfish since 2008.
The 'Fish won the doubles point from the Fire.
Roberto Binaghi and
Luis Eduardo Platas fell to Roy Stepanav and Federico Barbon 6-2. The Sailfish won the remaining doubles matches with
Umberto Rosi and
Jorge Santamaria beat the pair of Diego Menendez and Victor Oliviera 6-2.
Rodolfo Hasegawa and
Blake Williams defeated Enrique Martinez and Theordore Preiswerk 6-4.
In singles competition,
Roberto Binaghi dropped Enrique Martinez 6-4 in consecutive sets. Eduardo Platas split the first two sets with Diego Menendez. Platas lost the first set 6-2 and won the second 6-4. Platas won the tiebreaker 10-8. Hasegawa went to three sets against Preiswerk. He won the first 6-2, dropped the second 6-3. Hasegawa pulled away in the tiebreaker 11-9.
Umberto Rosi lost a 12-10 tiebreaker to Stepenav after splitting the first two sets 5-7, 6-3.
Jorge Santamaria clinched the victory for the Sailfish with a two set 6-4, 6-1 victory over Barbon.
Up next for PBA they will travel to Saint Leo for a conference clash on Satuday Feb. 12.
