Sailfish Struggle in Loss to Tusculum

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team played their third of a four-game homestand earlier this afternoon against Tusculum University. The Sailfish struggled defensively, allowing two big innings and falling to the Pioneers 10-2.

The game was tightly contested in the early innings. Drew Holweger got the start for the 'Fish and had an impressive showing through four innings, fanning four batters and only allowing 2 hits. The Pioneers would make a big run in the fifth and sixth innings, scoring all 10 of their runs in large part to solid hitting and some costly errors from the Sailfish.

Tusculum started the fifth with a single and a walk. Two Sailfish errors brought four Pioneer runners home in the frame as they took a 4-0 lead. Nate Housen would respond for the Sailfish in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single that brought Davis Blair in, ending the inning 4-1. That would be the end of the day for Holweger, he would end with five innings pitched, three hits, two earned runs, one walk, and five strikeouts.

The game would get out of hand for PBA as the Pioneers blew the game open in the sixth inning, scoring 6 runs off of five hits and two errors by the Sailfish. PBA would get one more run in the seventh inning, but the solid defense and pitching from Tusculum prevented the Sailfish hitters from getting anything going late. PBA finished the game with seven hits, two of which came from Housen who was the lone Sailfish with a multi-hit day.

PBA will play the final game of their four-game home stretch tomorrow afternoon when they host Washburn at J.M. "Jake" Rubin Park. Washburn is currently 0-2 with defeats to SSC opponent's Nova Southeastern and Barry.
