Sailfish Take Home Opening Day Win

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team opened their season tonight against Wheeling Jesuit University. The Sailfish offense exploded for two big innings as they took home the win 12-7, giving them a solid 1-0 start to the season.

PBA jumped out to an early 6-0 lead in the first inning. The Sailfish had the bases loaded from the start, advancing on a hit-by-pitch and a pair of singles by Jiovel Lantigua and Sebastian Salado. Davis Blair advanced on another hit-by-pitch, bringing Blake Ebo around to score. Sean Houck earned his first RBI of the season bringing Lantigua home with a single towards third base. Nate Housen struck the big blow in the inning, smashing a double to left-center that brought around Houck, Blair, and Salado. Matty Warren capped off the Sailfish run with an RBI single up the middle.

Chris Seymour got the ball for the 'Fish to begin the season and he was dominant at times in his Sailfish debut. He would go 3.2 innings allowing five runs, four earned, as he struck out five batters but battled his command surrendering six walks. Wheeling would make the game interesting as the night continued. The Cardinals made a big run in the fourth inning due to some Sailfish errors and key two-out RBIs. The Sailfish would weather the storm and come back with another big run of their own in the fourth inning. With PBA's early lead cut to two, Matty Warren added to his solid night in the fifth inning with a 3-RBI triple to right-center and Dylan Tosto knocked a two-run homer to left field, bringing the run total to 12 for the Sailfish.

Mike Entenza earned the win as the relief pitcher tonight for the Sailfish as they move to 1-0 on the season. He was great in relief for the Sailfish, going 4.1 innings, allowing just one run, and fanning seven batters. Ryan Webster came in to close out the final inning, allowing one hit and one run but shut the door on any Cardinals comeback as PBA captured the opening night win. The bottom of the Sailfish lineup was the group that stood out as the bottom four hitters combined for seven of their ten hits and ten RBI's.

PBA has a quick turnaround and will hit the diamond again tomorrow night when they host Catawba at J.M. "Jake" Rubin park. It will be a good test for the Sailfish early in the season as Catawba is ranked No. 20 in the preseason poll.
