WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team went on the road this evening to take on the Tritons of Eckerd College in their first of a three-game series. The Sailfish showed life in spurts, but couldn't pull off the comeback, losing 6-5
The Tritons jumped out to a lead in the early goings. Eckerd got two runs off of a sacrifice fly ball and a ground out that allowed another runner to cross home plate. The Sailfish would respond in the third, scoring two runs of their own.
Dylan Tosto reached on a walk and
Matty Warren singled to right field to move Tosto into scoring position.
Sebastian Salado doubled to right field, bringing in both Tosto and Warren. With the score tied at 2-2, it looked like the 'Fish had finally settled into the game.
The bottom of the third inning was not a bright spot for the Sailfish. The Tritons only had two hits in the third, but scored four runs off of a costly pick-off error and some uncharacteristic wild pitches by the Sailfish bullpen. The Tritons would take the lead 6-2.
The Sailfish would show signs of a comeback in the fourth inning.
Jeff Manto was able to drive in a run, and an error by the Eckerd infield helped another Sailfish runner cross the plate, making the score 6-4. The 'Fish would make one last push in the top of the eighth off of a
Jiovel Lantigua solo home run to right field. However, that was all PBA could muster as their comeback effort fell short.
Nick Adams would get the start for this matchup and would unfortunately take the loss. He would finish the day with two innings pitched, four runs earned, two walks and struck out one batter.
PBA will continue the SSC series against Eckerd tomorrow in a doubleheader. The 'Fish still have a chance to take the overall series if they win both games.
