WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team finished up their SSC road series against the Tritons of Eckerd College in a doubleheader. The Sailfish took the first game 7-5 but dropped the second game 8-6, losing the series two games to one.
Justin Lovell would get the start for PBA for the first game of the double header. He would go five innings pitched, five hits, three earned runs, three walks and strike out four Eckerd batters.
The first game of the day looked very similar to Friday night's game. The Tritons jumped out to an early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning. The Sailfish offense struggled in the early stages, leaving several potential scoring runs on base. The game looked to be locked at 3-0 until the 'Fish turned the tide in the seventh inning.
Jeff Manto led off the inning with a solo home run down the right field line. After two hits from
Dylan Tosto and
Matthew Faranda,
Matty Warren attempted a sacrifice bunt to send Tosto home. A costly throwing error by the Eckerd pitcher allowed both Tosto and Faranda to score, while Warren was able to reach third base.
Sebastian Salado produced a sacrifice fly ball to right field that drove Warren in, giving PBA the lead 4-3.
The 'Fish would add to their total with three more runs in the eighth. Manto and
Jiovel Lantigua were able to reach base and the standout Freshman
Matthew Faranda smashed a home run to right-center field to make the score 7-3. The Tritons would make the game interesting late but the PBA defense was able to hold them off in the end.
Dan Beebe would get the win in a relief effort for the Sailfish going three innings pitched with only two earned runs and two strikeouts.
Mike Entenza would get the call to start the second game. He would pitch 4 innings with seven hits, five earned runs, one walk, and fan six Triton hitters.
The Sailfish would tally nine hits in this game, but most of them didn't result towards getting runs on the board as they left 11 runners on base for the game. It was a back and forth contest, but big innings in the fourth, fifth, and seventh for Eckerd gave them the edge over PBA to take the second game 8-6.
PBA will start a four-game series on Mar. 3 when they take on Cedarville at home.
