BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball team returned to its Sunshine State Conference slate on Tuesday with a match against Lynn.
The Sailfish sought revenge against a Lynn team that took the first matchup earlier this year. The Fighting Knights (16-3, 8-2 SSC) defended their home court, defeating PBA (10-10, 4-6 SSC) in three sets.
Kaileigh Ammons led PBA with seven kills, hitting .417.
Kayla Matthews was right behind with six kills and three digs.
Mary Morgan Formby recorded five kills and a block.
Jayden Otto tallied 16 assists and eight digs.
Lauren Cummings had a team-high 12 digs.
A 6-1 run from Lynn allowed the Fighting Knights to pull away to an 18-12 lead in the first set. The Sailfish did not have a comeback in them as Lynn ended the set on a 5-0 run to take the opening set, 25-16.
Lynn started the second set with a 12-4 run. Attack errors cost the Sailfish in the middle of the set as they attempted to find a hole in the Fighting Knight's block. Four blocks by the hosts helped them take a 20-9 lead. Lynn won the second set, 25-13.
PBA hung with the Fighting Knights for the beginning of the third set thanks to the duo of Matthews and Formby. The Fighting Knights pulled away again to an 18-11 lead. Lynn held on to win, 25-15. The hosts hit a match-best .414 in the set.
The Sailfish return home to face Rollins on Friday. The match at Rubin Arena takes place at 7 p.m.
