WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.Michaela Boyd of the Palm Beach Atlantic women's soccer team was elected to two leadership committees while attending the NCAA Convention last week in Indianapolis with Director of Athletics Courtney Lovely Evans and PBA Faculty Athletics Representative, Dr. Timothy Ladd.

Boyd is a junior on the Sailfish women's soccer team who has served on the NCAA DII National Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for the last two years. She was elected to serve on the Division II Implementation Committee and the NCAA Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee.

"I'm so incredibly blessed to have been given the opportunity to serve on the Implementation Committee and the MOIC," Boyd said. "Both of these committees are going to be doing very important work within the NCAA, and I'm honored to have an opportunity to represent the student-athlete voice."

The Division II Implementation Committee reviews the division's rules and policies and makes recommendations to ensure changes are consistent with the principles agreed upon in the new NCAA constitution. Boyd was one of five student-athletes elected to the committee. She will serve on the Championships Subcommittee.

The Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee spans all three divisions of the NCAA. It aims to champion the cause of ethnic minorities by fostering an inclusive environment, thereby creating a culture that promotes fair and equitable access to opportunities and resources. Boyd was elected as the lone student-athlete representative of Division II.

"Along with her athlete prowess, Michaela consistently serves as a role model for classmates both on and off the soccer pitch," Boyd's professor and academic advisor Dr. Ladd said. "The hours that Michaela invests will impact Division II student-athletes across the country; her skills honed as elementary education major will benefit all committee members."

On the pitch, Boyd has appeared in 25 games in two seasons for the Sailfish. She's scored four career goals in 1,279 minutes played. Off the field, Boyd has earned a spot on the SSC Honor Roll two times, was a D2 ADA Academic Achievement honoree in 2020-21, and was a recipient of the NCAA DII Women Leaders X Grant.
