Second-Chance Points Cost Sailfish at ERAU

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic men's basketball team returned to action for the first time in 13 days on Saturday. The Sailfish faced an Embry-Riddle team that is currently receiving votes in the NABC top-25.

PBA (5-10, 5-3 SSC) held the lead after a strong first half, but Embry-Riddle's effort on the boards, specifically on the offensive end made the difference in the game. Although the Sailfish outshot the Eagles 49 percent to 41 percent, ERAU (14-4, 6-2 SSC) grabbed 24 offensive rebounds, leading to 27 second-chance points in the game. The hosts led the Sailfish in overall rebounding, 51-20 on their way to a 90-75 win over PBA.

Will Lee led the Sailfish with a season-high 24 points with six 3-pointers and two assists. Jules Jasmin tallied 17 points of his own with five rebounds and four steals. Alexander Gorton recorded nine points, two steals, two rebounds, and two assists. Jalen Cooper and Nate Ward each scored seven points in the contest.

The Sailfish played one of its best halves of the season to start the game. The PBA defense held the Eagles to 32 percent shooting from the field. On the other end of the court, the 'Fish shot 56 percent, including an 8-for-15 performance from the 3-point line. Lee had 12 points and Jasmin had 12, leading PBA to a 46-33 lead at the break.

PBA's lead diminished within the first 10 minutes of the second half. Embry-Riddle put on a rebounding clinic in the second half, outrebounding PBA, 35-4 in the period. Lee attempted to keep the Sailfish in the game with a pair of triples down the stretch with less than four minutes to go. PBA led by just five with three minutes left to go, but the Eagles closed the game on a 12-2 run to clinch the 90-75 win.

The turnover battle between the teams tied at 14, PBA was slightly better at taking advantage of ERAU's mistakes, scoring 22 points off turnovers compared to 18 for ERAU.
