WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic beach volleyball team faced the St. Thomas Bobcats for two matches this afternoon at the Rinker Athletics Campus. In their first home match in a month, the Sailfish finished off a clean two-match sweep of the Bobcats winning 5-0 in each match. The two wins take the Sailfish record to 10-6 on the season.
MATCH 1: PBA 5, STU 0
The Sailfish were simply to much for the Bobcats today as they eased to a 5-0 win in the first match.
Abigail Mason and
Kayleigh Hall were victorious at the No. 5 position in their first action together as a tandem. They pulled out the first set 21-15 before running away with the second one 21-6 to put the Sailfish out in front.
Jessica Nodell and
Sydney Wagner were up to the No. 4 position where they improved their record as a duo there to 3-1 as they won each set easily 21-9, 21-6. PBA's No. 1 team of
Jazz Schmidt and
Lunden Evans secured the match win as they won in straight sets 21-7, 21-6.
Lyndzey Minter and
Abby DeVido found similar success at their usual No. 2 position winning 21-9, 21-6.
Emma Pieper and
Olivia Finckel closed out the sweep for the Sailfish winning their match at No 3 21-14, 21-9. The win marked the fifth occasion where the 'Fish have taken down their opponent 5-0.
Match 2: PBA 5, STU 0
After cruising to an opening win, the Sailfish tinkered with their lineups in the second match to get more players experience and to see them with different partners. DeVido and Minter move up to the No. 1 team and won in straight sets 21-10, 21-9. The tandem is now 11-4 on the year playing primarly at the No. 2 spot for the Sailfish. Evans and Finckel teamed up at the No. 2 position and took care of business 21-14, 21-7 while Wagner and Nodell moved up to No. 3 to and won 21-16, 21-7. Nodell and Wagner have been together most of the year and are now 8-7 as a team.
Julia Golichowski and
Abigail Mason were victorious easily at position No. 4 in straight sets while Hall and
Devyn Kettner won 21-7, 21-9 at No. 5.
The Sailfish out matched the Bobcats in both matches today winning 5-0 without dropping a single set. The Sailfish will return to action this Sunday when they play their final two home matches against Jacksonville.
