Sailfish Wrap Up Play at SSC Tournament

4/20/2021 3:13:00 PM

LARGO, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic men's golf team finished play this afternoon at the Sunshine State Conference Tournament. The Sailfish finished the event in eighth place in a field of ten teams and 50 individuals. Grant Horvat led the Sailfish individually coming in tied for seventh over three days of play at Bayou Golf Club.

Horvat closed strong in rounds two and three to finish in the top-10 after two days of play. After an opening 76, Horvat followed that up with a two-under 70 in round two yesterday. He was strong again today as he birdied four of his first five holes and looked like he could possibly post a score and be the leader in the clubhouse, but he would go on to shoot a 38 on his back nine to finish with a 71 and tied for seventh. William Hartford sat tied for third after round one of play after opening with an even-par 72. Unfortunately for the Sailfish junior, a big number on his opening hole of round two would doom his round as he shot an 83 to fall out of contention. He bounced back today and closed with a 73 to finish tied for 31st.

Lynn won the team championship by seven shots over Nova Southeastern as the Fighting Knights were led by Agustin Errazuriz who won the individual title by two strokes. Will Schroeder was the second-best finisher for the Sailfish as he improved every round throughout the tournament. After opening with a 79, he fired rounds of 75 and 73 to move up to tied for 26th for the week. Jacob Shamblin finished tied with his teammate Hartford after two days of play as he recovered from an opening 80 to shoot two rounds of 74. Justin Guilford finished 48th after three rounds of 85, 84, and 78.

The Sailfish close out their season finishing eighth in the ten-team SSC field. The finish by Horvat ties for the program's best finish at the SSC Tournament with Martin Westerlund who also finished tied for seventh in the 2018-19 tournament.
