Men's Golf Finishes Play at Matlock Classic

LAKELAND, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic men's golf team competed in their second tournament of the season this week at the Matlock Collegiate Classic hosted by Florida Southern. The Sailfish were one of 14 teams competing in a field made up of 78 individuals who teed it up for 36 holes on Monday and a closing 18 today. 

The best performer for the Sailfish was senior Grant Horvat who finished the event tied for 29th. Horvat opened up strong on Monday morning firing a one-over 73 to put himself in the top-10. He closed Monday with an 80 before bouncing back in the final round with a 75 that included three birdies in a four-hole stretch. Horvat's play helped the 'Fish to a 13th place finish, shooting 948, behind runaway winner West Florida who finished as a team three-under-par. 

William Hartford was the second-best finisher for the Sailfish, tied for 39th after three rounds of play. He opened with an 82 before finishing strong with rounds of 75 and 77. West Florida's Alejandro Restrepo claimed the individual victory by shooting a tournament score of two-under, finishing one shot ahead of three players who finished at one-under. PBA's Justin Guilford competed in the tournament as an individual competitor, shot rounds of 82,74,82 to finish tied for 55th place. 

PBA's best player in the first tournament of the season, Will Schroeder, finished tied for 68th after opening with two rounds of 82 on Monday and then closed today with a 79. Jacob Shamblin and Diego Buttironi rounded out the Sailfish competitors as both finished tied for 73rd. Shamblin opened with rounds of 85 before finishing with a solid round of 76 this morning. Buttironi shot his best round of the event today as he closed with a 78. 

The Sailfish will have a week off of competition before they head to Melbourne, Fla. to play in the Space Coast Collegiate, hosted by Florida Tech.
