WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic men's tennis team hosted No. 3-ranked Saint Leo on Saturday at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center. The Sailfish competed well, but fell to the Lions 5-2.
PBA (1-6, 1-5 SSC) fell behind early after surrendering the doubles point to start the match.
Rodolfo Hasegawa and
Erik Carlsten dropped their match at No. 1 doubles against Alexander Parker and Christopher Traut, 6-3. The Lions clinched the doubles point by defeated
Jorge Santamaria and
Michal Precikowski at No. 3 doubles, 6-2.
Philipp Hoffmann and
Blake Williams also lost their match at No. 2 doubles, 6-4.
Saint Leo made it 2-0 after No. 21-ranked Aurel Ciocanu defeated Carlsten at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-1.
Luis Eduardo Platas dropped his match at No. 6 singles 6-4, 6-4 to make it 3-0 Lions. Hasegawa's 6-4, 6-3 loss at No. 4 singles clinched the match for Saint Leo (5-0, 3-0 SSC).
Roberto Binaghi came up short at No. 5 singles, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 to make it 5-0 for SLU. Santamaria earned a 6-2, 5-7, 8-10 win at No. 2 singles to avoid the shutout for PBA. The Sailfish ended the match on a high note after Hoffmann earned a win against No. 31 Bruno Faletoo, 6-2, 6-7 (5), 7-10.
The Sailfish are scheduled to compete at Rollins on April 17. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m.
