WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic men's tennis team concluded its season at Rollins on Saturday. The score doesn't accurately detail how close the match was as PBA had three matches in singles play go to three sets that didn't go PBA's way. Rollins took the match 6-1.
Jorge Santamaria and
Umberto Rosi started the match with a loss for the Sailfish at No. 2 doubles, 6-3. The Tars clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles over
Roberto Binaghi and
Erik Carlsten.
Philipp Hoffmann and
Rodolfo Hasegawa helped the 'Fish avoid the shutout in doubles play by picking up a 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles.
Rollins took a 2-0 lead by defeating Carlsten at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 7-5. Binaghi got the Sailfish on the board by picking up a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles to make it 2-1, Rollins. That was the lone point of the match for PBA. Hoffmann took a 6-2, 6-3 loss at No. 1 singles while
Luis Eduardo Platas was defeated at No. 5 singles, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 to clinch the match for the Tars. Hasegawa was handed a tough loss at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 4-6, 7-5. Lastly, Santamaria came up short at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (3).
Today's match was the last as a Sailfish for PBA's Hoffmann. He finished his career with a record of 38-36. The Sailfish finished the year with a 1-7 record.with a 1-6 mark in the Sunshine State Conference.
