WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic men's tennis team nearly put No.10-ranked Lynn on upset alert at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center. The Sailfish competed well, but lost a hard-fought match 4-3.
PBA had to work its way back from behind after falling behind in doubles play.
Rodolfo Hasegawa and
Erik Carlsten dropped their match at No. 1 doubles, 6-4. Lynn clinched the doubles point by defeating
Michal Precikowski and
Jorge Santamaria, 6-3 at No. 3 doubles.
Blake Williams and
Philipp Hoffmann rounded out doubles play with a 6-4 loss at No. 2 doubles.
Lynn made it a 2-0 match after Carlsten lost his match at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-0. Santamaria got the Sailfish on the board with a dominant win at No. 2 doubles over No. 17-ranked Lucca Baptista, 2-6, 2-6. Lynn took a 3-1 lead by defeating Hoffmann at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-4. Hasegawa kept PBA alive by picking up a win at the No. 5 position, 6-2, 1-6, 6-7 (7). Lynn clinched the match after a win over
Miguel Paz at No. 6 singles, 5-7, 6-3, 6-2.
Luis Eduardo Platas got the win at No. 4 singles by retirement.
The Sailfish will compete again on Saturday against Saint Leo. The match at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center is scheduled for 2 p.m.
