ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic men's tennis team earned its first win of 2021 at Eckerd on Saturday. The Sailfish bested the Tritons 5-2.
The team of Phillipp Hoffmann and
Blake Williams started the match with a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles over Edoardo Ruggiano and Alejandro Vucanovic. Eckerd answered with a win at No. 1 doubles over
Rodolfo Hasegawa and
Erik Carlsten, 5-7. PBA's
Michal Precikowski and
Jorge Santamaria came through in the clutch with a 7-5 win at No. 3 doubles to clinch the doubles point for the Sailfish.
Hasegawa made it 2-0 PBA with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles over Sam Walker. Santamaria won his match at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-1 to give PBA a commanding 3-0 lead. Eckerd got on the board with a 2-6, 1-6, win over Calrsten over No. 1 singles. That was too little too late for the Tritons as
Luis Eduardo Platas clinched the match for the 'Fish with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Christian Kearns at the No. 4 position.
Miguel Paz won his match at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 6-1, while
Osvaldo Sergio Godoy came up short at No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-7 (5), 8-10.
PBA faces a tough test in the form of No. 2 Barry on Sunday. The match at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
