PBA Ranked 6th in NCAA Region

Sailfish Ranked At No.6 In the NCAA South Region

INDIANAPOLIS, IN- The No.23 Palm Beach Atlantic University women's soccer team was ranked at No.6 in the NCAA South Region. These are the second rankings released by the NCAA this season. 

The Sailfish concluded their regular season with 2-0 win over Barry on Nov. 2. It marked the first win for PBA over Barry in program history. PBA opened up the scoring frenzy in the second half. In the 52nd minute, the ball found Angel Shamba at the top of the box. Shamba controlled the ball off her chest and kicked a heater in the top right corner of the net for a 1-0 PBA lead. With the game still tight, the Sailfish capitalized off a corner kick for an insurance goal. In the 84th minute, Sydney Timmes launched a corner kick in front of the box to PBA senior Halie Reznik . Reznik's header went into the back of the net to build the PBA lead to 2-0. Reznik and Shamba each scored their second goal of the year. PBA goalkeeper Madison Chiola made her fourth start of the year in net. The New Jersey native made five saves and recorded her second shut-out of the year.

PBA finished its season in second in the Sunshine State Conference standings. The 'Fish have scored 25 goals from thirteen different goal scorers. PBA midfielder Sydney Timmes leads the team in points with nine while Kylie Meola leads the team in goals with four. The 'Fish average 1.79 goals per game. PBA is 7-1 at the Rinker Athletic Complex. 

It's been a season of milestones for the 'Fish as they've defeated St. Leo, Tampa, Nova Southeastern and Barry for the first time in program history. Additionally they 'Fish hit their highest ranking in program history at No.16 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll.

Ranked ahead of PBA in the NCAA South Region is Florida Tech, Mississippi College, West Florida, No.13 Embry-Riddle, and No.2 Lee. 

Next week, this Sailfish will clash in the SSC tournament. It has yet to be determined who they will face. Following that,the top six seeds in the region advance to the NCAA tournament. PBA is seeking its first NCAA tournament berth in program history.
