LAKE NONA, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic men's tennis team continued its spring break schedule with a match against Southern New Hampshire on Saturday.
The Sailfish earned their second straight win in as many days with PBA (4-4) defeating SNHU (5-1), 5-2. PBA was forced to play from behind early after losing the doubles point.
Umberto Rosi and
Jorge Santamaria came up short at No. 3 doubles, 6-1. The team of
Erik Carlsten and
Rodolfo Hasegawa evened it up for PBA by winning at No. 2 doubles, 6-3. Unfortunately for the Sailfish,
Roberto Binaghi and Philip Hoffmann lost at the No. 1 spot 6-3 to surrender the doubles point to SNHU.
The Sailfish made their comeback in singles play. Hasegawa got PBA on the board with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles. SNHU retook the lead in the match with a 6-3, 6-1 win over
Miguel Paz at No. 6 singles. That was the last win of the day for the Penmen as the Sailfish took control. Carlsten tied the match by winning at No. 5 singles, 7-5, 6-0. PBA took the lead with a win by Hoffmann at No. 2 singles over No. 49-ranked Bas van Biezen. PBA clinched the match after Rosi picked up the victory at No. 1 singles over No. 14-ranked Willem van Biezen, 2-6, 6-3, 11-9. Just for good measure, Binaghi earned the win at No. 3 singles to make it 5-2 PBA.
The Sailfish will take Sunday off before facing UNC Asheville in on Monday. The match at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center starts at 4 p.m.
