WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic men's tennis team returned home to face Mercyhurst on Tuesday at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center.
The Sailfish made quick work of the Lakers as they swept Mercyhurst (4-3) 7-0 to move to 3-3 on the season. PBA (3-3) did not let any match go to a third set as it cruised to victory.
The team of
Erik Carlsten and
Rodolfo Hasegawa got the first win of the day for the 'Fish with a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles.
Philipp Hoffmann and
Roberto Binaghi followed with a 6-2 win of their own to clinch the doubles point for PBA. The duo of
Umberto Rosi and
Jorge Santamaria also won their match at No. 3 doubles, 6-3.
PBA kept the momentum going in singles play. Binaghi defeated Hristo Plasheki, 6-1, 6-0 to notch a win at No. 3 singles. Carlsten followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Sebastian Pardo at No. 4 singles to give the 'Fish a 3-0 lead. Hasegawa clinched the match for PBA with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the No. 5 position. Rosi earned a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles while
Miguel Paz finished with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6. Last, but not least, Hoffmann defeated Cormac McCooey, 6-1, 6-2.
The Sailfish take Wednesday off before facing Hawaii Pacific on Thursday. The match in Lake Nona, Fla. starts at 3 p.m.
