Men's Tennis Earns Fourth Place Finish in Florence

Florence S.C. – The Palm Beach Atlantic men's tennis team played its final day in the Florence City Collegiate tournament on Saturday.
 
The Sailfish started the day with a match in the second round against No. 6 Lander. PBA came up short against the Bearcats, 4-2. The 'Fish failed to bounce back against Francis Marion, dropping their match to the Patriots, 4-2, which resulted in a fourth-place finish at the tournament. 
 
PBA faces off against Flagler in its next match on Feb 16. The match in St. Augustine, Fla. takes place at 4 p.m.
 
Match 1: No. 6 Lander 4, PBA 2
 
PBA was forced to play from behind early. Jorge Santamaria and Roberto Binaghi lost the first doubles match at No. 3 doubles while the team of Roldolfo Hasegawa and Erik Carlsten dropped the match at No. 2 doubles 6-4 which allowed Lander to clinch the doubles point.
 
On the singles courts, Lander extended its lead by winning the match at No. 1 singles against Philipp Hoffmann 6-1, 6-4. PBA earned its first point of the day at No. 4 singles thanks to a win at No. 4 singles where Binaghi defeated Stanmir Petrovic, 6-4, 6-2. Carlsten tied the match at two by defeating Jamieson Nathan, 6-4, 7-6 (5) at No. 5 singles. Unfortunately, for the 'Fish they were unable to complete the comeback as they dropped matches at the No. 3 and No. 2 spots.
 
Match 2: Francis Marion 4, PBA 2
 
The Sailfish were forced to play from behind again early in the match. PBA came up short at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots on the doubles courts to fall behind 1-0.
 
Hoffmann tied the match for the Sailfish by earning a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 victory over Brandon Sweeny at No. 1 singles. Hasegawa got a win of his own at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 2-6, 6-1, to give the 'Fish a 2-1 lead. Unfortunately for the 'Fish, they conceded points at the No. 3, No. 4, and No. 5 positions which allowed Francis Marion to clinch the match 4-2.
