Men's Basketball Gets Decisive Win over Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic men's basketball team continued its winning ways on Saturday with a decisive win over Tampa.

The Sailfish led in the game from start to finish. PBA's (16-6, 9-5 SSC) defense forced the Spartans into 19 turnovers and the 'Fish took advantage. The Sailfish scored 30 points off Tampa's (6-17, 3-12 SSC) miscues and cruised to an 85-52 win. PBA held Tampa to a stingy 37 percent from the field while shooting 54 percent themselves on the offensive end.

Dan Largey led the 'Fish with 19 points, including four 3-pointers to go with four rebounds and two assists. Darhius Nunn was second on the team in scoring with 17 points, four assists and three steals. Jules Jasmin added 13 points and four rebounds. Justin Nichelson contributed 14 points and five rebounds while Aleksa Rakic totaled a team-high eight rebounds off the bench.

After a competitive seven minutes of play to start the game, the Sailfish began to pull away. 3-pointers from De'Oondre Jackson and Nichelson created some breathing room for the 'Fish. PBA shot 60 percent in the half, including shooting 50 percent from beyond the arc.

The Sailfish held a 15-point lead near the end of the half thanks to a 7-0 run that including a 3-pointer from Rakic and four consecutive points by Nunn. PBA went into the locker room with a 41-29 lead.

PBA began to put the game out of reach early in the second period. An 15-5 run with five points from Largey, a bucket from Jackson and eight points from Jasmin, including two slam dunks made it 61-43 PBA with 10 minutes remaining.

The onslaught began from there. With nine minutes remaining, an 11-0 run gave the Sailfish a 28-point lead at the five-minute mark. A five-point run by Nichelson with two minutes to go gave PBA its largest lead of the game as it held an 85-50 advantage. The Sailfish coasted to the 85-52 win to earn their fifth win in a row.

Even though the Sailfish were knocking down shots on the perimeter, PBA got whatever they wanted inside. The 'Fish outscored Tampa 40-18 in points in the paint. Tonight's victory is the largest win for the Sailfish against a DII opponent since their game against Paine in 2017 and is their largest margin of victory in an SSC win.

PBA travels to face Barry, who is one spot above PBA in the SSC standings, on Wednesday. The game in Miami Shores, Fla. is scheduled to tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
