WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Palm Beach Atlantic basebll defeated Nova Southeastern 7–6 in the the non-conference midweek matchup on Tuesday evening. The Sailfish (3-4) were able to score in the bottom of the 14th inning on a wild pitch to defeat the Sharks (3-7) in a game that lasted nearly five and a half hours.
Redshirt Junior Mitchell Price (1-0) picked up his first as a Sailfish throwing the 14th inning giving up no hits and no runs. Brandon Smith also pitched well in the game. Smith came in relief to throw 5.0 innings giving up only two hits and zero runs while striking out five.
The Sailfish offense was able to score three runs in the second inning all coming from singles. Robert Fabelo, Ramon Machado, and Sean Houck all collected RBI singles in the frame. The 'Fish also added a run in the third on a Carlos Lara single through the left side.
Trailing 6-4 Palm Beach Atlantic put up tied things up with two more RBI singles. First, Derek Schwimer singled through the right side to score Lara. Then Houck singled to center field to score Machado which put the score at 6-6.
Neither team would score for the next five innings before the Sailfish were able to break the tie in the bottom of the 14th. Fabelo lead things off with his fourth hit of the night which was a single to right field. He would move to second on a balk before Machado would be awarded first base on a hit-by-pitch. The runners were able to advance to second and third on a chopper of the bat of Schwimer setting the Sailfish up to bring the winning run home. The Sharks pitcher then threw a wild pitch which allowed Fabelo to easily score the seventh run and seal the 7-6 victory for the 'Fish.
Fabelo collected a season high four hits in the game while Schwimer and Houck each had three. Sebastian Salado and Machado would finish the game with two hits apiece as well.
The Sailfish will return to action on Friday, Feb. 21 as they travel to Albany, Ga. to take on Albany State for the three game series. Friday's first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
