ALBANY, Ga. - Palm Beach Atlantic baseball defeated Albany State University on Friday night behind a complete game effort from Christian Denton. The Sailfish (4-4) were able to hang on for the win despite the Golden Rams (5-6) last inning effort. The Albany State rally was not enough as the Sailfish came out on top 3-2.
Denton twirled yet another gem for the 'Fish, this time going the distance in the first complete game of the year for PBA. In his nine innings of work, Denton only surrendered two hits and zero earned runs while striking out a season high 11 batters.
The Sailfish offense struck early scoring in the top of the first. Sean Houck singled to right field in his first at-bat and later stole second to set up an RBI opportunity for Robert Fabelo who was able to single to centerfield. The hit allowed Houck to come home safely for the first run of the game.
That would not be all for the 'Fish as they scored again in the fourth. Brandon Smith singled to right field before Andreas Papageorge homered to put the Sailfish up 3-0.
The Golden Rams would not go down without a fight as they go two runs on one hit in the bottom of the ninth before the Sailfish were able to get out of the inning and secure the 3-2 win.
Papageorge and Smith led the way for the 'Fish with two hits each. Houck, Fabelo, and Brandon Seltzer got one hit apiece as well.
The Sailfish will finish up the weekend series with the Golden Rams on Saturday, Feb. 22 in a double-header starting at noon in Albany.
