West Picks Up 200th Hit in Loss to Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic softball dropped the final game of the series to Tampa on Friday, as the Sailfish fell behind early and were unable to mount a comeback.  The 'Fish now sit at 27-21 on the season and 15-12 in SSC play while Tampa improves to 30-10 overall with the win.

Tampa scratched across a run in the first inning on three infield singles, and scored three more runs in the second inning to take a 4-0 lead.  The game remained 4-0 until the fifth inning, where Taylor Pennica reached on a two-out error, and Liz Albertini followed with a single.  Magnolia West then singled home the first Sailfish run of the day, and picked up her 200th career hit at Palm Beach Atlantic in the process.

The Spartans scored three more runs in the fifth inning to cruise to a 7-1 win.  Tampa outhit the Sailfish 11-6 in the process.

Maddie Bertisch picked up a single in the fourth inning, her 209th hit in her four-year career, which ties Mari Stokes atop the all-time list.

PBA will close out the season next week with a three-game series against Nova Southeastern at Simpson Field.  The Sailfish will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday, as they will honor the careers of Maddie Bertisch and Kaley Hinds.
