DADE CITY, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic men's golf finished eighth at the Sunshine State Conference men's golf championship this week, as they shot even-par as a team on Tuesday to close out the tournament and climb from 10th to eighth on the final day. Martin Westerlund closed out the tournament with back-to-back rounds of 67 as he finished in the top-10 overall in the event.
The 'Fish got off to a disappointing start in the tournament, as they shot a round of 310 on Sunday. PBA bounced back with rounds of 300 and 288 on the final two days of the tournament however to close out strong and climb to eighth place in the field that includes six of the top-nine ranked teams in the country.
Westerlund opened his tournament with a 79, but closed with back-to-back 67's which broke the PBA 18-hole scoring record of 68 which was held by five different golfers. Westerlund had seven birdies and two bogeys in each of his final two rounds which propelled him to a seventh place finish in the SSC.
Grant Horvat posted a solid showing as well, as he shot rounds of 74, 72, and 71 on the week to finish at 1-over par and in 14th. Horvat had four birdies in all three rounds on the week, and limited his mistakes in his final round to go under par.
Carter Smith shot rounds of 78, 80, and 76 on the week as he finished in a tie for 44th. Ben Clarke shot rounds of 80 and 81 to begin the week but closed with a final-round 74 on Tuesday. Diego Buttironi shot rounds of 79, 81, and 79 on the week for the 'Fish.
