Softball Completes SSC Sweep of Florida Southern

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic softball swept Florida Southern this weekend, taking the final two games of the series on Saturday.  PBA improves to 26-19 on the season with the sweep and 14-10 in Sunshine State Conference play.

Game 1: PBA 5, Florida Southern 0

The Sailfish once again got off to a good start offensively as Magnolia West, Maddie Bertisch, and Katherine Budnovich led off the game with singles.  After a pop up, Maddie Biggs squeezed home a run and Alexis Guerra singled home the third run of the inning.

Budnovich had her second RBI single of the game in the second inning, and the 'Fish went up 5-0 on a RBI single from Edmilly Molina.

Abbey Busby was strong in the circle again for the 'Fish, as she pitched four shutout innings to improve to 20-10.  Budnovich tossed the final three innings of the game without allowing a run to pick up her first save of the season.

Bertisch picked up three hits for the second game in a row, while West, Budnovich, Liz Albertini, and Kaley Hinds all recorded two hits for the Sailfish.

Game 2: PBA 5, Florida Southern 4

The Sailfish took an early lead again in the series finale, as two runs came around to score on a first-inning single from Maddie Biggs.

The score remained 2-0 until the bottom of the fifth, when Budnovich drove home a run on a single to left field, and Taylor Pennica hit a pinch-hit two-run homer to left to stretch the lead to 5-0.

The Moccasins plated four runs in the bottom of the seventh before Busby recorded the final out of the game.

Busby pitched 5.1 innings in total in the finale, and picked up her third win of the series to improve to 21-10.

The Sailfish and Mocs both recorded seven hits in the finale, as West was the lone Sailfish hitter with multiple hits.
