WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic softball knocked off Florida Southern on Friday, as they clubbed 12 hits en route to a 7-1 victory at Simpson Field. The Sailfish improve to 24-19 overall and 12-10 in SSC play.
The Sailfish plated three runs in the bottom half of the first as Magnolia West led off with a walk and Maddie Bertisch followed with an infield single. After a groundout, a Taylor Pennica infield single drove in the first run of the game. A Maddie Biggs bunt and a Hannah Carlton single scored the other two first-inning runs.
PBA got another run in the second on a Katherine Budnovich RBI single, and two more runs in the fourth on a Maddie Biggs double to deep center.
Abbey Busby allowed just one hit in four shutout innings to pick up her 19th victory of the season. Busby struck out five batters and walked one. Taylor Pennica allowed one run on three innings in relief to pick up her third save of the season.
Bertisch went 3-for-3 on the night and picked up her 200th career hit in the second inning. Budnovich went 3-for-4 on the night while Biggs finished 2-for-4 with three RBI.
The Sailfish will return to action tomorrow as they will host Florida Southern in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
